Buses are equipped with a variety of different safety measures to help ensure that other drivers can easily see them. Additionally, there are several different laws in place designed to protect children as they board school buses. Unfortunately, when drivers fail to obey these laws, the lives of children are put at risk. In fact, a Maryland teenager was recently hospitalized following a pedestrian accident that happened while he was attempting to board a school bus.

The incident happened just after 7 a.m. on a day in mid-December. Reports indicate that the 17-year-old male victim was crossing the street at a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. His goal, according to reports, was to board a school bus.

Officials claim the lights and stop sign on the bus were activated at the time of the accident. Rescue workers reportedly performed CPR on the teenager before transporting him to the hospital. The 61-year-old driver of the vehicle that reportedly struck him is said to have remained at the scene. A representative for the school reports that multiple students witnessed the incident. Though it is unclear if criminal charges are anticipated, the accident likely remains under investigation.

The teenager reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the Maryland pedestrian accident. Such victims often experience long periods of recuperation and may never be able to fully recover. Unfortunately, the teenager may require extensive medical treatment as a result of his injuries. Many victims of accidents caused by another’s negligence seek recompense in a civil courtroom. An attorney with experience with such cases can help guide them through the process.
