Most people are aware of the risks associated with traveling in a motor vehicle. Though they take action to protect themselves, including driving defensively, there is often little they can do to avoid the negligent actions of others on the roadway. Unfortunately, a recent car accident in Maryland has resulted in one fatality and sent two people to the hospital.

The accident happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-October. According to reports, a 19-year-old female was driving a car with a 25-year-old male passenger. Reports indicate that a sports utility vehicle driven by a 19-year-old male struck the car from behind.

The force of the impact reportedly caused the car to overturn, trapping both occupants. The driver died at the scene while her passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening. The driver of the SUV also suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. Investigators did not release the identity of those involved in the accident in its immediate aftermath; it is unclear if criminal charges are anticipated.

While the investigation into the Maryland incident will likely continue, a family must come to terms with the unexpected death of their young family member. Victims of a car accident — including both the family members of the deceased and those injured in the collision — often face significant financial burdens due to funeral expenses, lost wages and medical costs. Fortunately, a successfully presented personal injury lawsuit can help victims cope with these expenses. An attorney with experience with such cases can help them throughout the process.
