For many people in Maryland and across the United States, pets are considered a member of the family. However, no matter how much people may love their pets, they are ultimately expected to ensure that their animals do not cause harm to others. Unfortunately, a woman in another state is currently in critical condition after she was reportedly the victim of a dog attack.
The incident happened on a day in mid-November. Reports indicate that the 76-year-old victim was walking in a park when she was attacked by three pit bulls. Witnesses were able to break up the attack and notify police of the dogs’ general location after they ran off. The victim was transported to the hospital.
Police were ultimately able to track the dogs’ owner to a home in which a 44-year-old woman indicated that they belonged. They reportedly escaped from the yard after digging a hole under a fence. The owner was arrested and charged with a felony as a result of the attack.
Unfortunately, the recovery from a dog attack such as this can often be lengthy and expensive. Some victims face both physical and mental health issues as a result. In this case, the woman will likely face expensive medical bills. Many people in Maryland who have been the victim of such an attack have opted to file a personal injury lawsuit against those who are responsible for the animals who attacked them. Often, guidance from an experienced attorney leaves them feeling more prepared to decide what response is most appropriate for their individual circumstances.
