Woman hospitalized, man arrested following dog attack

Most people in Maryland feel relatively safe while walking near their homes. Unfortunately, such a task can prove dangerous if there are aggressive dogs in the area, as one woman in another state recently discovered. Reports indicate that she was hospitalized following a dog attack that also resulted in the arrest of the owner of the dogs.

The incident happened on a day in late February. According to the 55-year-old victim, she was walking near her house — a route that she had walked numerous times in the past. She claims that a dog approached her, barking. When she told it to stop, a second dog arrived at the scene and attacked her.

Witnesses called 911 while a man fought them off with a stick. The woman suffered serious injuries to her legs in the incident, requiring hospitalization. Both the victim and police claim that the man with the stick likely saved her life. The dogs’ owner, a 21-year-old man, was arrested following the incident and charged with aggravated battery.

While reports indicate that the woman was lucky to survive the accident, she must still cope with the injuries she did suffer. While the medical bills from the physical injuries she suffered can quickly become overwhelming, she may be like many victims of dog attacks in Maryland and across the country who also suffer mentally as well. To help ensure that the woman is able to seek the care she needs, she may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the dogs’ owner. If successfully presented, she could receive a financial award that will ensure she can cope with the long- and short-term consequences of her injuries.
